"Not much is more
exciting than seeing demonstrations of God's power in
thunderstorms during a stormchase," says Brian. Originally from North
Augusta,
SC across the state line from Augusta, GA where
that
little golf event is held, Brian now lives in Nashville, TN. He is a music instructor in
Nashville
at a school where he teaches music and weather to kids K-5. He is a songwriter who graduated from the University
of South Carolina School of Music in Columbia, SC where he
earned a
Bachelor of Music degree with an emphasis in music education. His interest in
weather
is probably the result of a lightning phobia that he had until his middle
school years. Brian says he always had an interest in science in general,
and
was the science club president his senior year at Midland
Valley High School in Langley,
SC. In February 1999, he joined the SKYWARN program and received his storm spotter
certification
through the National Weather Service in Nashville, TN. In May
2000, he joined the weather team at NewsChannel
5 WTVF in Nashville, TN, as a stormchaser. In July 2000, he received storm spotter
certification from the National Weather Service in Columbia, SC.
As a storm
spotter with these organizations, Brian reports dangerous weather events and
potentially dangerous cloud formations; when combined with data from
Doppler
Radar helps save lives and property. Brian says he recommends that all storm
chasers not affiliated with SKYWARN or chasers
without any meteorological training attend at least one spotter class,
because he believes the dangers from storms are greatly decreased by knowledge. |
