A tour of NewsChannel 5's
state-of-the-art weather center.
Meteorologist Charlie Neese. Charlie begins the tour.
Charlie is in control!
This is the control desk where the meteorologists stand during the newscasts.  Charlie has all of the radar controls at this desk, plus the ability to perform emergency break-ins at anytime to warn of approaching danger.
Charlie demonstrates the bluescreen.  This is what actually happens in the studio when you see the meteorologists in front of the large pictures.  Charlie can never wear anything blue on TV, because the computer will make the picture appear any where blue is present.  Charlie looks to little TV screens on the sides where he can see where he is pointing.
This was a surprise picture catching me off guard, but it shows the entire blue screen with the monitors on both sides.  Click the link below if you want more information on how this process is done.

This is Michelle who helped shoot the pictures for this tour.  Thanks Michelle!
This is another view showing almost all of the weather screens.  Computer towers for each monitor are neatly hidden under the desks behind closed cabinet doors.  The electronics are cooled and vented at the back of the weather center.
Charlie is getting ready to go on the air, but first shows me video of stormchasers in the midwest who were indirectly hit by lightning.  Charlie enjoys chasing storms too, so we always have plenty to talk about.
